New York Mets related news and links for December 14, 2012
There were some signings yesterday that may have had an influence on the R.A. Dickey market, all of which are linked down at the bottom. Fangraphs took a look at one of those deals, specifically at a surplus it has now created.
Yesterday at AA:
Andres Torres signed with the San Francisco Giants, officially ending any chance of a return to the Mets. Despite how poorly that trade turned out for the Mets, we'd still probably be looking for a new center fielder at this point anyway.ob
Neyer took a look at the nerve of a pitcher who actually answered questions without being disrespectful to the Mets.
The Angels and Josh Hamilton agreed to a deal that will pay the outfielder $125 million over the next five years. I don't know how great that's going to look in the last few years of that deal, but to each their own I guess.
The starting pitching market got a little thinner yesterday as well. Ryan Dempster agreed to a deal that will see him join the Red Sox, while Anibal Sanchez has agreed to join the Cubs. Wait, Sanchez just has a ridiculous offer from the Cubs. Now throw the Tigers into the ridiculous offer group as well. Either way, that pretty much eliminates the free agent starting pitching market as being an option for teams in need of good starters (unless you want to get stupid with Sanchez as well).
