New York Mets related news and links for December 21, 2012
The Mets have a hole in their starting rotation now that they've traded R.A.Dickey to the Blue Jays, and Marc Carig is reporting that they are looking at Francisco Liriano. Carig also mentioned that the Mets may be willing to go beyond one year for an outfielder, although I don't think I'd be expecting Michael Bourn.
Ken Davidoff mentioned that the Mets are also looking at Yankee legend Carl Pavano. Like Liriano, this seems like a decent option at this point in the offseason and with our limited funds.
Yesterday at AA:
Kevin Burkhardt mentioned that the Mets were showing interest in Grady Sizemore, so Chris looked at what he might bring to the table. On a Minor League deal with basically no guaranteed money, that seems like an excellent swing for the fences type of move.
Dariel Alvarez was declared a free agent by the league, so Steve introduced us to him.
The starting pitching market got a little thinner, as the Cubs signed a pair of arms for their rotation. Edwin Jackson got a ridiculous deal, while Carlos Villanueva signed for a little bit less. The Cubs 40-man roster is full, so there willl be a pair of moves coming to create a pair of openings.
There are questions starting to pop up about whether or not Scott Boras has played the market for Michael Bourn correctly. This concern seems premature to me, I think Bourn will still do just fine.
