Meet the Mets
Assuming the Mets can't figure out a way to steal Dickey for Justin Turner or something, Sandy Alderson has seemingly brought the team's gaze onto 2014. You want a little more positivity? Marc Carig in Newsday has profiles on both Travis d'Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard.
Around the Majors
In tragic news, former big league utility player Ryan Freel committed suicide yesterday at the age of 36. Freel, who was known for his all-out style of play, stated during a June 2007 interview that he'd probably had about 9 or 10 concussions to that point.
It looks like the Red Sox haven't learned from their recent mistakes, as they are once again trading for a veteran closer. This time, it sounds like they'll send four players to the Pirates for Joel Hanrahan (one of those players is Mark Melancon, one of the closers they acquired last offseason). I'm not exactly sure what the Red Sox are doing at this point.
Here's something with some Mets implications: Cody Ross and the Diamondbacks have agreed to a three-year, $26 million contract. Seems pretty surprising that Ross managed to get three years, especially from a team that's overloaded in the outifled. I'm not exactly sure what the Diamondbacks are doing at this point.

The Mets signed Endy Chavez on December 22nd, 2005. ENDY! ENDY! ENDY!
