2013 Hall Of Fame Thread

The 37-player Hall of Fame ballot has been released, featuring some of the best, and most controversial, players in MLB history. Here is the full list:

Sandy Alomar Jr., Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Jeff Cirillo, Royce Clayton, Roger Clemens, Jeff Conine, Steve Finley, Julio Franco, Shawn Green, Roberto Hernandez, Ryan Klesko, Kenny Lofton, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jose Mesa, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines, Reggie Sanders, Curt Schilling, Aaron Sele, Lee Smith, Sammy Sosa, Mike Stanton, Alan Trammell, Larry Walker, Todd Walker, David Wells, Rondell White, Bernie Williams, and Woody Williams

The big guy, Mike Piazza, makes his debut on the ballot this year. There are also several Omar Minaya guys: Jeff Conine, Julio Franco, Shawn Green, Roberto Hernandez, Aaron Sele. Here is my hypothetical ballot, containing the maximum of 10 selections:

  • Jeff Bagwell
  • Craig Biggio
  • Barry Bonds
  • Roger Clemens
  • Mark McGwire
  • Mike Piazza
  • Tim Raines
  • Curt Schilling
  • Sammy Sosa
  • Alan Trammell

Edgar Martinez would also make my ballot if voting for more than 10 players were allowed. Larry Walker and Rafael Palmeiro are very close as well. The slam dunks are Bagwell, Bonds, Clemens, and Piazza. The rest are more debatable but warrant selection based on my analysis of advanced statistics. I am not bothered by PEDs. All the home runs and strikeouts happened; that can't be changed. There are already plenty of "cheaters" in the Hall of Fame. Context is important.
