Mets Morning News: National Fake Rumor Week Begins!

Chris Trotman

A source who would DEF know tells me that the Winter Meetings are this week. The Mets really need to sign some outfielders, you guys.

Meet the Mets

The Winter Meetings kick off today in Nashville, and SB Nation NY has what to watch for with the Mets. Remember kids, this week there will be 20 fake rumors for every real one, so be careful out there on the twitter.

And McCullough buries the lead a bit in his piece on R.A. Dickey for the Star-Ledger. Clearly the important part is that R.A. will be on The Daily Show this week!

ICYMI, the Mets could really use another catcher. That catcher? Luis Hernandez. (Has this gotten old yet?)

Yesterday at AA

Brock Mahan celebrated Mets Third Baseman Day for This Day in Mets History.

Around MLB

MLB.com has a "Hot Stove Tracker" for those of you that are into that sort of thing. No beat reporter tweet bingo though. Grave oversight.

The news is already coming fast and furious though, as the Rays have signed James Loney and the Rangers have re-upped with Geovany Soto.

Rob Neyer previews the Hall of Fame Veteran's Committee vote today. I have a soft spot for Tony Mullane, but Bill Dahlen should definitely get in.

Get ready for about 20,000 tweets like this one this week.

The best prospect in baseball, the Rangers' Jurickson Profar, has been shut down in the Dominican Winter League with some forearm inflammation.

And finally, Brad Lidge is hanging up the spikes after an illustrious career that sadly might be best known for that 2005 Albert Pujols home run that still hasn't landed yet.

And now, your Mets highlight of the day to get you through the long, cold winter:

"Met for Life" David Wright delivers the walk-off bloop off Papelboner. Life was good for a moment. Note incredibly giddy R.A. Dickey dashing out of the dugout at the end of the clip.

And your non-baseball link of the day:

Read about the creation of Pong as the game turns 40 years old.
