Winter Meetings 2012: Mets Reportedly Showing Interest In Vinnie Pestano

Adam Rubin is reporting that the Mets are looking at Cleveland's Vinnie Pestano as they look for bullpen help.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York is reporting that the Mets are showing interest in adding Vinnie Pestano of the Cleveland Indians as they look to strengthen their bullpen. He is an interesting pitcher and he'd certainly fill a need for the Mets, although I'm not sure why the Indians would be looking to move him.

Pestano is a 27-year old right hander that features primarily a sinking fastball that sits in the low 90's with the occasional slider mixed in. He's struck out 11.0 batters per nine innings over the course of his major league career, while walking 3.48 per nine. His groundball rates are pretty low for a sinkerball throwing pitcher, sitting just under 40% for his career.

2013 will be the final season for Pestano before he's eligible for arbitration, assuming of course that he spends it at the major league level. With that in mind, he'll likely cost a decent amount in terms of prospects to pry away from the Indians. I'd assume any deal involving Pestano would likely be for players with less service time that the reliever has, as the Indians are always looking for more payroll flexibility.
