I read a Fanpost the other day that suggested that the only way that we could get Wil Myers from the royals is by trading away Zack Wheeler. That trade doesn't really make any sense, because the Royals are looking for pitching NOW, so that they can contend for a playoff spot, and they also have pitching prospects like Danny Duffy and Jake Odorizzi,Kyle Zimmer, and Yordano Ventura. All of those pitchers, with the exception of Duffy, who has pitched too many MLB innings to still be a prospect, are top 100 prospects according to MLB.com. They only need two things to be a contender next year. They have a solid outfield with Alex Gordon and Lorenzo Cain. They have an above average bullpen with Greg Holland, Kelvin Herrera, Aaron Crow,Tim Collins, Louis Coleman,Francisley Bueno, and Nate Adcock, who were all excellent in 2012.That Royals bullpen had a 3.17 ERA in 2012, good for 6th in the MLB.They have an infield filled with talent, including Mike Moustakas at 3rd,Eric Hosmer at 1st, and Alcides Escobar at SS, however they lack a starting 2nd Baseman. They have a solid starting catcher in Sal Perez, and a stud DH in Billy Butler. They have an average rotation with Guthrie, Ervin Santana,Luis Mendoza, and possibly Bruce Chen or Luke Hochevar. With that offense, they don't need a great rotation to make the playoffs. The rotation they currently have still won't be enough for a playoff berth. They lack a true #1 pitcher, and the lack a starting 2nd baseman. With the team they have right now, they have a chance of making the playoffs, but it's a long shot. If they can fill those two holes, they will have a legit playoff contender. Obviously the Royals are interested in reigning Cy Young winner R.A Dickey, according to mlbtraderumors.com. The reports from that website suggest that R.A Dickey isn't enough for Wil Myers. So why not throw in Daniel Murphy? Murphy is a legit starting 2nd Baseman, if only by virtue of his bat. This trade would fill both holes on the royals, while ensuring that the Mets have a superstar outfielder for their playoff run in 2014-16. Even if that is not enough for the royals, you could throw in guys like Jeurys Familia, Colin Mchugh, Jenry Mejia, or guys like Zach Lutz, Reese Havens, or Josh Satin. If the royals accepted that trade, it would go a long way toward filling a big need for the mets. With Murphy gone, the Mets would need a starting 2B. They have a lot of guys who could do that, like Jordanny Valdespin, Reese Havens ( if he doesn't go to KC), or even top prospect Wilmer Flores. Flores is currently at 3rd, but is blocked by Wright. Also, his lack or range suggests that a move to 2nd or 1st would have been likely in the near future anyway. His bat is certainly ready, and hopefully he wouldn't be such a defensive butcher at 2nd. They could also bring in a guy like Freddy Sanchez on an incentive laden deal, if only as a stop gap solution. What are your thoughts?Do you think this trade is realistic? Do you think the mets have an in house option to replace Murphy? Do you want this trade to happen?
