Full Of Hated People Applesauce: Pat Burrell, Chipper Jones, Murray Chass, Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel Are All Mentioned and For That, I Apologize Profusely.

Meet the Mets

R.A. Dickey and Daniel Murphy both received awards at the Thurman Munson Awards Dinner in Manhattan yesterday and took some time to speak with the media. Dickey reflected on his Kilimanjaro trip, while also stressing honesty when it comes to the expectations for the 2012 Mets. Murphy, meanwhile, spoke about the work he needs to put in at second base this spring to prepare for the season.

Toby Hyde continued his annual Top 41 prospect list with 21 year old righty Rafael Montero clocking in at #38. Montero threw 71 innings across four levels (DSL, GCL, Kingsport, Brooklyn) in his first professional season and could become a quick riser in 2012.

The Orioles signed former Met Ronny Paulino to a minor league deal for 2012. He'll back up starting catcher Matt Wieters, should he make the team out of spring training.

Over at Fangraphs, Jim Breen uses the example of Taylor Buchholz and takes a look into stress and anxiety among Major League baseball players.

Finally, former GM Omar Minaya was back at the Mets' Dominican complex as a member of the Padres' scouting team and here's some photo evidence of this visit.

Around the Majors

In the "hated rivals" category, the retirement of Pat Burrell has brought the legendary Met killer back into the forefront for another day. Ted Berg says good riddance to the former Phillies slugger, while Dave Cameron asks whether Burrell was a bust. As we say goodbye to one hated rival, another one is saying that retirement is the last thing on his mind. Damn you, Larry!

Word is that the Mariners offered righty Michael Pineda to the Blue Jays straight up for budding star third baseman Brett Lawrie straight up. Of course, the Jays turned the deal down, leading them to deal Pineda to the Yankees for Jesus Montero. So the question is, who would you rather have: Jesus Montero or Brett Lawrie?

Paging Jerry Manuel! Mark Teixeira is considering the prospect of adding BUNTZ to his offensive repertoire, as a means of counteracting against the shift that opposing teams play while he's batting.

Paging Jerry Manuel (Again)! According to Jon Heyman, Nats manager Davey Johnson wants Bryce Harper to be his right fielder on Opening Day. Of course, this will probably work out for them as we're still snakebitten, baby!

Brandon Warne at Fangraphs took a look at some of the notable minor league free agent signings over the past week. I still don't understand why the Phillies hate Domonic Brown.

At a charity event, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine picked the Patriots to beat the Giants in Sunday's Super Bowl. Et Tu, Bobby?

Finally, everybody's favorite not-a-blogger-but actually-a-blogger blogger Murray Chass sent in his MLB Fan Cave Application Essay and luckily enough, NotGraphs was able to procure a copy of it for everyone's enjoyment! Go ahead and read this quickly before Murray tells all of you young'ns with your good-for-nothing stat calculators to get off his lawn!
