Okay, there is no way this is Sandy Alderson
Will have to drive carefully on trip; Mets only reimburse for gas at a downhill rate. Will try to coast all the way to FL.

That tweet may have sealed the deal.
No way Sandy actually tweets that without repercussion from the Wilpons.
If it is not him, which it does not appear to be, could the MSM and the Mets be conspiring against Sandy in order to get him fired?
It was supposedly verified by those two sources.
I typed your symptoms into this thing up here and it says you could have network connectivity problems.
Well, he could have asked permission first.
Cause that might be the funniest one. I really really really hope this is him.
I hope it is too.
But he is treading a fine line if it is him. It does not bother myself, but we have a sensitive fanbase.

It's like he's trolling the Pomes' and the Bayonne Mets Fans

That's what makes it so funny
It’s all allegory. He knows what he’s referring to, we know what he’s referring to, as does the media, but can they prove that he isn’t just making jokes about high gas prices?
Maybe this isn’t really him, and there’s a conspiracy to get him axed. Maybe he tweets this having inside knowledge that the Wilpons are on the way out the door, or conversely, maybe this is just an organization-wide troll job of the Mets twitter fanbase.
Either way, what makes this so entertaining is that it allows the reader to form conclusions on their own. Maybe they’re hoping Howard Megdal can try the same and get his creds back.

The best part is they can't really fire him
If it’s true that Selig pushed for Alderson in order for the Wilpons to keep the team, firing him would possibly force Selig to axe them. Tweet away, Sandy!!
Unless either Alderson or the NY Times is just straight up lying then yes it is him
Twitter is full of fake, unverified accounts, and many on the network questioned whether Alderson was behind the message. He was. Alderson said he had been amused to see another innocuous factoid — his revelation that he would be driving to Florida for spring training — joked about, dissected and in some cases seriously analyzed by some on Twitter and on blogs as a reflection of the Mets’ finances. So someone in his office suggested he create a Twitter account to respond, Alderson said, and he thought, "Why not?" "We wanted to play off the absurdity of it," Alderson said. "Everything we do is viewed through the prism of our perceived financial situation."

I’d like to see how the MSM can try to spin that around.

When Werth signed he said to the press "I thought they were trying to reduce the deficit in DC"
So, he already had that in him. At some point SNL is going to make him a call or something.

A contemporary episode of SNL I'd actually watch!

I know right?
They should fire all their writers and hire Sandy. I laughed more at his jokes these last few days than SNL in the last 10 years!
Jeez, you guys didn't even chuckle at Tina Fey's Sarah Palin? that wasn't bad

I love Tina Fey
And her Sarah Palin impression is great, but if you’re going all the way back to 2008 as a reference point for funny moments on that show, doesn’t that say something about it’s quality?
The only time I went out of my way to watch SNL (so basically the only time I watched)
was when Galifianakis was on.

The only way the fans and media turns on him is he makes light of the team losing during
the season. He can pretty much goof on everything else and most of the base will love him.
i doubt he'd make that mistake
he seems to have a pretty excellent handle on how to talk about the team.

And
nothing Sandy has said or done indicates that he’s ok with losing. Sense of humor, yes, but also a sense of purpose.

This is amazing.
I love Sandy
I like sports again. Thank you Tom & Eli. The Wilpons can still go suck it.
