As the news of Gary Carter's death to Cancer still saddens the baseball community, this writer can't help but think of how a great a player Gary was, but also of how great a man he was. Gary Carter was a true legend in every sense of the word. Not just because of his accomplishments on the field but because of his commitment, love, and passion for the game of baseball. He loved baseball and he truly loved the New York Mets. Until the end, he cared for everyone whom he knew and he especially cared for his players that he managed in his team managing in the minor leagues and in college. The last team he managed was the NCAA Division 2, Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish. With the Palm Beach, he not only led the team on the field but set an example off the field, as a man of integrity, honor, and respect to the game of baseball. He will be dearly missed and let's all remember Gary "Kid" Carter. Number 8.
