A sweep of the World Series with four consecutive perfect games
Anything less is complete and utter failure

W-L is irrelevant in 2012
Success would be the further development of players who could be the building blocks of a future contender. So, if the team finishes 65-97, but Ike Davis, Lucas Duda, Ruben Tejada, and Jon Niese all take steps forward while Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler have big seasons in the minors, I would consider it a success.
On the flip side, a 77-85 season with lost/injured seasons from the above players would be a failure to me.

This!
Well put.

The team would not finish
65-97 if those players take steps forward…
Record low attendance leading to the forced sale of the team by the Wilpons
But if we’re trying to be optimistic, the growth of our young players like Ike, Murph, Niese, and Tejada, as well as the development of our top prospects in the minors. Winning is nice, but this is a rebuilding year so it’s not a necessary goal.

A winning record would be nice, but
The Wilpons selling the team would be the best possible outcome of this coming season,

a complete NYC boycott of the Mets
2012 New York Mets, World Series Champions!
A winning season would obviously be the most desirable
Others in no particular order of importance:
-Progression from our young players at both the major league and minor league levels, the latter may be the more important one for the future of the franchise
-Hopefully a sale of the team, but the Wilpons getting their act together so they could just run the team properly is desirable too
-An end to all the Madoff situation, and a settlement on the lawsuit.
-An end to all of the stupidity. After this season, I don’t want to here any more boycott crap, nor any “Meet the Mess” garbage, money jokes, bitching about Jose Reyes, comparisons to 1979, or any schlock of that ilk. It’s all just so unbelievably stupid, while being uncreative, not funny, and just a waste of bandwidth.

While I do think that, I'm just referring to hearing it all of the time
It’s about as entertaining as a Bobby Bo joke and I just can’t find it in me to take it seriously.

It's become almost obnoxious memeish through ad nauseum repetition
So, yeah, kinda.

Going 18-0 against each of
Phillies, Braves, and Marlins.
and 6-0 against the Yankees.
We can lose every other game for all I care.
One day, this team is going to kill me.
