Jon Niese's great outing and Daniel Murphy's pair of rib-eye steaks were not enough for the Mets to defeat the Braves in their spring training contest.

Niese threw 5.1 innings, notched 3 strikeouts, walked zero, and did not allow a run. Combined with the Irish Hammer's two-run single in the bottom of the sixth, it would have been enough to win the game. But the bullpen, oh, the bullpen. Chuck James and Ramon Ramirez allowed three runs on four hits in the eighth inning, which was enough to give the Braves the win.

Outside of Murphy's day at the plate, the Mets had only three hits; one a piece from Ronny Cedeno, Jordany Valdespin, and Mike Baxter.

The Mets play on Sunday at 1:05 pm as they visit the Astros. The game will not be televised, but it can be heard on WFAN.
