Astros 9, Mets 5: More Like PeLOLfrey

We've quoted it before, and I'll quote it again. After his first spring training start, Mike Pelfrey said:

I think it's too early to worry about the results.

And that's still a valid point, even though Pelfrey did his best impression of Oliver Perez this afternoon. In 2.2 innings pitched, Big Pelf yielded 8 runs. He had 4 strikeouts but also issued 4 walks and gave up a home run. If there are two things that Pelfrey can't afford, they are walks and home runs. As frustrating as many find him, however, Pelfrey's been incredibly consistent over the years. The most likely scenario for the regular season is that he'll once again put together a 4.50 ERA while giving up plenty of contact.

At the plate, Mike Baxter went 2-for-5, and Ronny Cedeno and Rob Johnson each hit a home run. Vinny Rottino, vying for one of the last spots on the roster, went 1-for-4 with a rib-eye steak and a run scored.

The Mets are off tomorrow, but they resume the spring training grind on Tuesday as they host the Nationals for a game at 6:10 pm. The game will be broadcast on SNY.

Nice job by KeithsMoustache; his effort in the game thread embiggens us all.
