The race for the Mets' available bullpen spots continues. Since last week, Jenrry Mejia, Aderlin Rodriguez, Jeurys Familia, Robert Carson, Josh Stinson, Matt Harvey, and Jeremy Hefner have been cut. Those who appeared on the first installment of the Make-the-Mets-O-Meter have been removed this week.
With the rotation set and only three healthy relief pitchers - Frank Francisco, Ramon Ramirez, and Jon Rauch - given spots at the outset of spring training, there are four spots available. Two of them are all but certain to belong to Manny Acosta and Bobby Parnell, which leaves two truly open for competition.
|Manny Acosta, RHP||There's no way he's not making the team. Acosta now has 6 K, 0 BB, and has allowed only one hit in 5 innings.|
|Miguel Batista, RHP||He hasn't appeared in a game since last week but still has a shot at the last spot.|
|Pedro Beato, RHP||Beato's still recovering from his injury, and he's very unlikely to make the team now that he's not under Rule 5 restrictions.|
|Fernando Cabrera, RHP||Cabrera's 4.76 ERA in spring training games is actually misleading, as he's given up a ton of baserunners.|
|D.J. Carrasco, RHP||Carraco's fighting an injury and has barely played so far. Figure he'll start the year on the disabled list and then attempt to get back to the Mets while rehabbing with Buffalo.|
|Josh Edgin, LHP||With 7 K and 2 BB in 5 IP, Edgin has been impressive. Tim Byrdak thinks he'll be back a lot sooner than expected, but Edgin has a shot to fill his role early in the season.|
|Daniel Herrera, LHP||He hasn't allowed a run in 4.1 innings of work despite having only one strikeout.|
|Chuck James, LHP||It's been a rough spring for James, who's rocking an 8.10 ERA in his tiny 3.1-inning sample. Zero strikeouts, four walks.|
|Garrett Olson, LHP||Olson's sporting a nice line: 3 K, 1 BB, no runs in 4.2 innings. And he's left-handed, of course.|
|Bobby Parnell, RHP||Parnell's been excellent in his outings. Terry Collins wouldn't guarantee him a spot in the bullpen entering spring, but he's going to get one.|
|Chris Schwinden, RHP||Like last week, Schwinden only figures to stick with the team for Opening Day in the event of an injury in the starting rotation.|
