The New York Mets will likely put middle infielder Ronny Cedeno on the disabled list, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN. Cedeno's absence was first noted by Rubin during batting practice.

Cedeno, 29, is hitting .250/.438/.333 in sixteen plate appearances on the year, right in line with his career averages of .246/.287/.353 over eight seasons. Eno Sarris profiled him earlier this year and noted that the light-hitting Venezuelan is best used as a backup middle infielder. He saw the majority of his plate appearances this season while David Wright was out with a sprained pinkie.

This could be the move that changes the Jordany Valdespin 24-Hour Taxi Squad call-up into an actual activation, but that has not yet been confirmed. Rubin suggests that the club will likely activate Hefner for today's double header and then activate Valdespin tomorrow.

Cedeno's specific injury has not yet been reported.
