R.A. Dickey rebounded from a poor start last week with an excellent outing against the Marlins tonight. He threw seven innings, allowed one run, struck out seven, and walked one. Dickey threw 100 pitches on the evening, 68 of which were strikes. The lone run came on a solo home run by Omar Infante in the fifth inning.

The Mets' hitters couldn't get to Mark Buerhle until the seventh but scored a pair in the inning. Daniel Murphy hit a ground ball that should have resulted in an inning-ending double play, but Jose Reyes' relay throw missed first base by a wide margin to keep the inning alive. David Wright made the Marlins pay with a home run to left-center field that gave the Mets a 2-1 lead.

Jon Rauch and Bobby Parnell combined to throw a scoreless eighth, and the bats provided the bullpen with three insurance runs in the bottom of the inning. Ruben Tejada hit a one-out double, and after Murphy struck out, the Marlins intentionally walked Wright. Lucas Duda then drilled a single to right field, and it bounced off of Giancarlo Stanton's leg, allowing Tejada to score and Wright and Duda to advance an extra base. Pinch hitter Mike Baxter doubled to put the Mets ahead 5-1.

Tim Byrdak and Manny Acosta combined to pitch a scoreless ninth inning. Byrdak allowed a single to the only batter he faced, but Acosta struck out Stanton and later induced a game-ending double play.
