Mets Player Performance Meter, Week 2: Hitters

Stay connected for news and updates

Irish Hammer isn't hammering, but he's getting on base.

Fresh off a sweep of the Miami Marlins, the Mets are now 11-8, which is good enough for third place in the National League East. They are three games back of the red-hot Washington Nationals and one behind the Atlanta Braves.

At 3.47 runs per game, the Mets rank twelfth in the National League. They are eight in average, fourth in on-base, ninth in slugging, and ninth in wOBA. All stats below are from April 19 through April 26.

Player Last Week This Week Comment
Mike Baxter, OF His .250/.333/.500 line would work for the Mets in any given week.
Jason Bay, LF Bay had a few good days, at least at the plate, before he broke his rib.
Ronny Cedeno, IF Cedeno's been on the DL for over a week.
Ike Davis, 1B Things actually got worse for Ike as he hit .087/.125/.087 over the past week.
Lucas Duda, RF I like your style, dude.
Scott Hairston, OF More like Scott No-hits-ton, am I right?
Zach Lutz, IF Can't judge a guy at 0-for-2 in his first pair of plate appearances.
Daniel Murphy, 2B It would still be good if Murphy could hit for extra bases more often, but .333/.345/.370 works.
Mike Nickeas, C Nickeas neither played nor hit much.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, CF Captain Kirk looked a bit more human but still hit .286/.355/.500 over the span and made some excellent plays in center field.
Ruben Tejada, SS Tejada's hot start is a distant memory now. He's struggling to hit but is still drawing walks, at least.
Josh Thole, C Thole's quietly been on of the best hitters on the team and is getting starts against left-handed pitching, which is overdue but good.
Andres Torres, CF Torres is still out with a strained oblique but hopes to return during the Mets' current road trip.
Justin Turner, IF Turner had a .500 OBP and one great plate appearance as he walked to bring home the tying run yesterday.
Jordany Valdespin, IF/OF Like Lutz, it's too early to judge.
David Wright, 3B At .167/.333/.33, it wasn't a great week for Wright, but he did hit that go-ahead two-run bomb the other day.
