Mets 3, Brewers 1: Amazins Out-Hexed

On this evening, the Mets' bad pitching mojo matched up against the Brewers' bad hitting juju for a battle of who could out-hex in the other. In the end, Milwaukee won, which is to say they lost the game.

Brewers pitcher Yovani Gallardo was wild all night, but the Mets could not take full advantage of six free passes in the first five innings. A pair of walks set things up nicely for a Daniel Murphy RBI single in the first, but the Mets did nothing else with the walks they worked so hard to earn. Luckily, Milwaukee bypassed their own opportunities; namely, taking advantage of the eminently hittable Miguel Batista. They also ran themselves out of a scoring opportunity in the second on a botched squeeze play. Adding insult to bunt-injury, the Mets executed their own suicide squeeze in the sixth to pad their lead to 2-0. The lead expanded further when David Wright hit a double off of old pal Frankie Rodriguez in the bottom of the eighth and eventually scored on a botched rundown play. (Thanks, Aramis Ramirez.)

That presented a save opportunity for Frank Francisco, who got the save, because he's a closer. That's what closers do: they get saves. Don't worry about the closing situation, guys, we got it covered.
