The Mets and Reds traded runs in the third inning, Cincinnati scoring theirs on a Zack Cozart double while New York tied it up on a Lucas Duda RBI single. Both pitchers kept thing quite until the bottom of the sixth, when a Duda single and throwing error by Joey Votto set things up for a run scoring double from Ike Davis. Another suicide squeeze expanded the Mets' lead to 3-1.
The Reds crawled to within a run on a Todd Frazier solo shot in the top of the seventh, then tied things up on three straight hits against Jon Rauch in the eighth. Jay Bruce drove in the go-ahead run on a long sac fly, then DJ Carrasco saw his first pitch fly off Frazier's bat and land near the Home Run Apple for a two run shot. The Mets went quietly against the Reds' bullpen to cap the loss.
Series finale at 1:10 tomorrow, so walk it off and get some shuteye, boys. Except you, DJ. You go ahead and sleep in.
Full recap to come.
