AAA - Buffalo Bisons (25-17)_______________________________________

BUFFALO 5, GWINNETT 3 (Box)

I watched the last six innings or so after this contest became the clearly superior option to Mets/Jays. I did miss Buffalo falling behind early as Matt Harvey gave up back to back home runs in a laborious first inning. After that he was pretty much lights out. Fastball was popping and both the curve and slider looked good. He still needs to work on harnessing what he has, as his release point could get a little flaky, and he was beating guys with fastballs that major league hitters will square up. But nonetheless a very good performance. Harvey was helped out by a pair of Valentino Pascucci bombs. And hey, I got to see Josh Satin get two base hits, so that salvaged my evening. #HAILSATIN

  • 2B Josh Satin: 2-3, BB; So sorry I doubted you yesterday.
  • 1B Valentino Pascucci: 2-4, 2 HR (10), 2 R, 4 RBI, K; Both shots were absolute monsters. One off the batter's eye in CF, and one onto the street out past the LF fence.
  • RHP Matt Harvey: W, 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 11 K, 2 HR; Added a 1-1 at the plate, now hitting .400 on the year.
  • RHP Dylan Owen: SV, 3 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 2 K; Gotta keep padding out the Buffalo section. But he's been perfectly cromulent in AAA and, heck, might end up in the majors at the rate the Mets are burning through their pen.

AA - Binghamton Mets (19-20)_____________________________________

PORTLAND 4, BINGHAMTON 0 (Box)

Kind of a boring little shutout here, so let's talk a little bit about B-Mets starter Gonzalez Germen. He's been kicking around the Mets system since 2008, and really is only a prospect under the most liberal definition of the term. Still, he keeps plugging along, giving you about a K per inning and getting groundballs in bunches. He's no soft tosser either, as the games I've charted have seen him 91-93, and he has a pretty good change-up. Of course, he's been old for every league he's pitched in and will be 25 in September. Oh, and I think Toby Hyde probably wants me to point out that he has no breaking ball. But he just keeps doing his thing, and has quietly put together a few nice starts at Binghamton. Not that the bats helped him out last night.

  • DH Juan Lagares: 0-3, BB, K
  • CF Matt Den Dekker: 1-5, 3 K; Somehow didn't notice Den Dekker is now over .300 in AA. K rate is down some this year, too, though it is still high. But he doesn't need to improve all that much on the margins to make himself a useful player down the road.
  • 3B Jefry Marte: 2-2, 2 BB; Heating up again? .342/.419/.526 over his last ten. Suddenly the Flores/Marte quandry is looking like a good problem to have.
  • 2B Reese Havens: 0-3, K, HBP; Officially worried. Could just be a slump. Could be the lost time and injuries are finally starting to erode the bat.
  • RHP Gonzalez Germen: L, 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 R, 6 H, 3 BB, 6 K
  • LHP Robert Carson: 1 scoreless inning for the big club. And sat 96!
  • RHP Armando Rodriguez: 2 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 2 K
MOVIN' ON UP: Per Lynn Worthy, RHP Adrian Rosario has been promoted from St. Lucie. As reported in the Amazin Avenue Daily Farm System Report, Rosario has been downright nasty as the A-Mets closer with 28 K in 20.1 IP.

Hi-A St. Lucie Mets (33-8)________________________________________

ST. LUCIE 7, LAKELAND 2 (Box)

I mean, what can you even say at this point. St. Lucie has won 33 OUT OF 41 GAMES!!!1111 Insanity. And they are doing it without a single guy I can point to and say "that guy will be an MLB starter." Now, granted, that doesn't matter so much in A-ball, and this team is mostly made up of the very successful 2011 Savannah roster, but this is just an absurd run. LHP Chase Huchingson had a nice bounceback start and the Mets continued their love affair with the big inning, hanging a six spot on Lakeland in the fourth.

SUSPENDED: 2B/SS Danny Muno has been suspended for 50 games for violating baseball's substance abuse policy. Toby has the details.

Lo-A Savannah Sand Gnats (24-16)__________________________________

AUGUSTA 4, SAVANNAH 3 (Box)

Canterbury's Christopher Marlowe penned Doctor Faustus, one of the most important works of the Pre-Elizabethean theatre. Augusta's Christopher Marlowe had to settle for baffling Savannah's hitters for four innings. But hey, at least he wasn't assassinated for being a spy. Or was it a heretic? The whole affair was very murky. Okay, I'm sorry this wasn't one of Pack's days, because his recap of Christopher Marlowe's start would have been way more interesting. And possibly composed in blank verse

  • C Cam Maron: 1-2, 2B, 3 BB, K; Mini-Thole with a very Tholeish line.
  • 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 2-4, HR (5), R, RBI, K, E (8); Ad-Rock is the biggest damn tease.
  • CF Travis Taijeron: 0-2, R, 2 BB, K
  • 1B Brian Harrison: 1-4, 2B, RBI
  • RHP Tyler Pill: L, 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 5 K; 42 K and 43 H in 39.1 IP. That sounds like a guy that is maybe throwing too many strikes. I suppose the Savannah defense probably doesn't help either.

Star of the Night

Valentino Pascucci did this. His second home run of the night might have even been more impressive, but milb.com doesn't have that video. They do have video of Thursday's WCC race, though.

Goat of the Night

After watching the Mets/Jays game I feel like I just can't find anything suitably goat worthy tonight. My barometer is just all screwed up. The horns gets the night off.
