National League 8, American League 0: Dickey Throws A Scoreless Frame In Senior Circuit Victory

KANSAS CITY, MO - JULY 10: National League All-Star R.A. Dickey #43 of the New York Mets pitches in the sixth inning during the 83rd MLB All-Star Game at Kauffman Stadium on July 10, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)

By the time David Wright and R.A. Dickey got into the All Star Game, it was virtually over. The National League scored five runs against Justin Verlander in the first inning, which was more than enough for the win. Three of the runs scored on a bases-loaded triple by Pablo Sandoval, who had no business getting the start at third base over Wright but silenced the haters with the big hit.

As for Dickey, he threw a scoreless sixth inning. Mike Trout led off with a single up the middle against him and proceeded to steal second base. Dickey wasn't exactly holding Trout on at first, but the Angels' rookie and American League MVP candidate was the first opponent to swipe a bag against Dickey this year.

Dickey then got Mark Trumbo to strike out swinging before hitting Paul Konerko — on his elbow protector — with a knuckleball. Miguel Cabrera came up to the plate with a chance to make things interesting, but Dickey induced a weak grounder to short for the easy inning-ending double play.

Wright, meanwhile, entered the game in the bottom of the fourth inning at third base and went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a ground out at the plate.

Thanks to Bud Selig's ridiculous "This Time it Counts" rule, should the Mets find themselves in the World Series this year, they will have home field advantage.
