SNEAK PEEK: Assessing the Impact of Citi Field's New Dimensions on Home Runs

+

I have conducted a comprehensive and careful study on how the changes to Citi Field's dimensions have affected its Home Run rates, and what I have found so far is quite telling. I will release the full results of my study tomorrow, with all the pertinent details, and reach a conclusion as to whether or not the changes have reaped a net benefit for the Mets. QUICK FACTS: In the 46 games played at Citi Field during the first half of the 2012 season, • a total of 83 Home Runs were hit (45 by the Mets) • had the dimensions remained intact, only 61 Home Runs would have been hit (a difference of 22) • a staggering 36.1% more Home Runs were hit, because of the changes to Citi Field's dimensions • had the dimensions remained intact, the HR rate so far would have been 1.33 HR/game (virtually identical to last year's HR rate at Citi Field), instead of 1.80 HR/game. As you can see, it's obvious that the changes to Citi Field's dimensions have had a very meaningful impact, and as shown here, the HR rate would have remained constant otherwise.
