Quick Recap: Dodgers 8, Mets 5 — Batista And Co. Give Up Too Many Runs For Mets' Lineup

The Mets dropped another game to the Dodgers this afternoon, and Miguel Batista, who got the start instead of top prospect Matt Harvey, pitched about as poorly as expected. He lasted just three innings, struck out two, walked there, and gave up four earned runs.

The Mets scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Dodgers tacked on a run in the fourth and another in the fifth, both against Jeremy Hefner. But Josh Edgin came on to throw two scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh with three strikeouts, and the Mets drew closer with a run in the sixth.

Tim Byrdak pitched a scoreless eighth, and the Mets nearly pulled even with a two runs in the bottom of the inning. R.A. Dickey came out of the bullpen to pitch the ninth and retired the first two batters he faced but gave up a two-run home run to Juan Uribe to turn a one-run deficit into a three-run deficit. Kenley Jansen set the Mets down in order in the bottom of the ninth, and the Mets are now back at .500 for the first time since early May.

We knew it was over when...

Uribe hit the two-run bomb off Dickey.

What else?

Help us, Jon Niese, you're our only hope.
