Mets Player Performance Meter, Week 17: Hitters

We like Ike again!

The Mets won just two of their last seven games going back to last Friday, and the offense mostly struggled in the process. Despite a six-run win against the Braves and an eight-run win against the Reds, the Mets averaged just 3.14 runs per game over the stretch. The National League average for the season is 4.25 runs per game, and the Cubs are worst in the league at 3.69 runs per game. That's how poorly the Mets' offense played.

Player Last Week This Week Comment
Mike Baxter, OF With a .368 OBP, Baxter's week was a significant improvement over last week.
Jason Bay, LF He's back. No, not really.
Ronny Cedeno, SS Cedeno didn't have a hit in two at-bats, but he drew three walks. His OBP this year is one the great mysteries in baseball.
Ike Davis, 1B It sure would be nice if Ike had more weeks like this: .278/.381/.500 with one home run.
Scott Hairston, OF Welcome back, Scott! The right-handed slugger compiled a 1.159 OPS without even hitting a home run. Fantastic.
Rob Johnson, C He had a decent week at the plate before he was sent to Buffalo to make room for Shoppach.
Daniel Murphy, 2B .130/.130/.130? Yikes.
Kelly Shoppach, C In his player meter debut, Shoppach hit just .143 with a .250 OBP but slugged .571 thanks to a solo home run.
Ruben Tejada, SS Tejada hasn't been awful, but he hasn't been good over these past several games.
Josh Thole, C With another tough week at the plate, Thole now has a .319 OBP for the season, a big drop from his career mark of .341.
Andres Torres, CF Just when he was starting to get good again, Torres had an awful week.
Justin Turner, IF We honestly miss the pies that Turner so often incorporated with the fun games of the earlier part of the season.
Jordany Valdespin, OF He didn't get one base too often but hit a home run. Sounds familiar for some reason.
David Wright, 3B Wright's slump continues. Andrew McCutchen's running away with MVP honors anyways, which makes it sting a little bit less.

This week's player meter covers games from August 10 through 17.
