AAA - Buffalo Bisons (62-67)_______________________________________

PAWTUCKETT 4, BUFFALO 1 (Box)

Forget climbing out of the cellar- will Buffalo ever get to .500 for the season? With this kind of performance, maybe not. Jeurys Familia took the bump and was tagged with the loss. He did not pitch particularly poorly, but he pitched worse than his box score looks (and that’s factoring in the 5 BBs). He threw a ton of balls and worked his pitch count up real early real fast, hence only going 5 IP. The offense didn’t do him any favors, committing two errors and scattering only 5 hits. The Bisons’ solitary run came in the 4th, on a Zach Lutz home run. Former Bison/Met and newly acquired Red Sox Pedro Beato got the save for his new club, sticking it to his former.

AA - Binghamton Mets (61-66)_____________________________________

BINGHAMTON 5, RICHMOND 2 (Box)

Binghamton avoided the sweep and beat the Flying Squirrels thanks to some good situational hitting and a strong outing from Gonzalez Germen and the bullpen behind him. The B-Mets scored all their runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings (in true sequential fashion, two and three runs, respectively), knocking Richmond pitcher Michael Kickham out early. Germen, on the other hand, would go seven deep, and hand the lead over to Bradley Holt, who notched his fifth hold of the season and Andrew Carpenter, who got his first save of the year.

Hi-A - St. Lucie Mets (28-27 // 77-46)________________________________________

CHARLOTTE 5, ST. LUCIE 4 (Box)

St. Lucie, after fighting and clawing their way back, lost to the Charlotte Stone Crabs after Jack Leathersich allowed a walk-off single to Kevin Kiermaier. That St. Lucie got to that point that they could lose in a walk-off manner is a silver lining, though. Chase Huchingson allowed three runs in the 1st and another in the 2nd, so things did not look good. St. Lucie fought back in the 6th, scoring three runs on a few singles, and then another in the top of the 8th to tie the game. Sadly, in the bottom of the 9th, Jeffrey Walters allowed a walk and a ground rule double. The bases were loaded to set up the double play, but the normally dependable Leathersich couldn’t strike out the one batter he faced, or induce a groundball.

Lo-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (24-31 // 65-57)__________________________________

HICKORY 5, SAVANNAH 3 (Box)

You'll have to forgive me, not writing up game recaps from this point on. I was able to write the AAA and AA recaps earlier in the night, but then WWE's Summerslam started. During one match, after hearing the announcers continually harp on the fact that wrestler CM Punk "needs to be respected" and that Big Show was "dominating", my sister and I started knocking back shots (her, of water, and me, of rum) every time either 'respect' or 'domination' were referenced. For whatever reason, rum kind of gets me sick, so asides for feeling a little loose here, I also have a stomach ache. Just wanted to get the prospect stats, and go to bed.

Short Season A - Brooklyn Cyclones (36-23)__________________________________

BROOKLYN 2, VERMONT 0 (Box)

  • CF Brandon Nimmo: 0-4, 1 BB, 2 K
  • SS Phillip Evans: 0-4
  • C Kevin Plawecki: 2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, 2 HR (5, 6), E (4); One man Plawreckin' Crew
  • RHP Hansel Robles: 6 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K; When a solidly decent start is seen as "meh", you know the pitcher is doing something good for the year.

Appalachian League (R) - Kingsport Mets (19-36)__________________________________

ELIZABETHTON 3, KINGSPORT 2 (Box)

Star of the Night

Kevin Plawecki with his two solo homers, single handedly won the game for Brooklyn.

Goat of the Night

Jeffrey Walters lost the game for St. Lucie, walking a batter and allowing a ground rule double in the bottom of the 9th.
