The Mets are arguably set for the next several years with a major league infield (Wright-Tejada-Murphy-Davis) and basically nothing else offensively. What we do have though is starting pitching depth, and I think we should start trading off pieces that have value to address these other areas. One guy that I think should be traded is Jon Niese. It’ll be tough to see him go, but I think he could bring a lot in return, seeing as how he’s a quality SP signed to a team-friendly contract heading into his prime. If we could move Jon Niese for a MLB ready catcher and outfielder, I think we should do it. I think we should also consider moving any infield prospects that are blocked by the aforementioned players for pre-arbitration relief help. I’d have to think some AL team would give up a younger relief pitcher for a guy like Duda, or give up an OF prospect that is on the level of Wilmer Flores for Flores himself. It doesn’t do us any good to have a ton of pitching and corner infielding, but little else.
