Quick Recap: Rockies 5, Mets 2 — At Least Harvey Was Good

Think 2013.

Matt Harvey had another very good start as he struck out nine, walked two, and allowed just one run in six innings, but the Mets' lineup continued to struggle against the worst pitching staff in Major League Baseball.

The Mets plated a run on a sacrifice fly by Scott Hairston in the first inning, but after Harvey allowed the lone run of his night in the fourth, the game remained tied through six innings. With Harve out of the game, Ramon Ramirez took over and promptly served up a solo home run to Wilin Rosario. Colorado scored again one out later on a squeeze play on which Ramirez flubbed the ball and wasn't even able to get the out at first base.

Josh Edgin pitched a one-two-three eight, but Frank Francisco poured fuel on the fire in the ninth. Frank Frank gave up a leadoff single to Tyler Colvin, who then stole second base and advanced to third on the play when Kelly Shoppach's double-clutch throw flew into center field. He came in to score on a single by Chris Nelson, and Nelson advanced to second on a balk before coming in to score on a double by pinch hitter Josh Rutledge.

Down three in the ninth, the Mets got the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Ronny Cedeno flew out to the warning track in left field to end the game.

We knew it was over when...

Harvey's was done after six innings with the game still tied.

What else?

  • Harvey went 2-for-2 with two singles. He is now hitting .455/.455/.636 in his big league career.
  • The Mets are ten games under .500.
