Let me start by asking: has anyone realized that Mike Nickeas has been HITTING in Buffalo? (Currently up to .364 with 2 hits tonight) Ok, enough about that. Now on to the business at hand.

I've read on other blogs that the Cy Young Award is Johnny Cueto's to lose. I disagree wholeheartedly, not because I'm a die hard Met fan but because of the reality of the type of season RA Dickey is having. Cueto has received the majority of the attention regarding the award because he's pitching quite well, in a hitter's haven, and on a team that looks like they have a legit shot at making the world series. Some people have said that because his team is in a pennant race, it makes his starts that much more important. I begs to differ.

In 2010, Felix Hernandez won the award, for the last place Seattle Mariners, with 13-12 record. He led the AL in ERA (2.27) and IP (249 2/3) and was second in K's (232). Now, let's take a look at both Cueto and Dickey for comparison just to see who is having the better year.

Cueto currently leads the NL in ERA(2.48), 6th in IP, 18th in K's(144), 8th in WHIP (1.12), 17th in BAA (.242), has 2 CG with no shutouts. The ERA is phenomenal considering where he plays his home games(Great American Ballpark) along with his WHIP. He's started 27 games this year. These are all great numbers and a worthy candidate for the Cy Young Ballot.

Dickey currently leads the NL in CG (5), Shutouts (3), and WHIP (1.01). He's currently 2nd in IP (191 1/3), K's (190), 3rd in BAA (.218), and ERA (2.63). He's also started 27 games.

It seems that Dickey is having an UNBELIEVABLE SEASON!!!!! I checked on Fangraphs.com to compare the WAR of each player: Cueto is currently sitting at 4.6. Dickey is sitting at 4.1 and this doesn't take into account his win today.

To be honest, and I hope this really isn't true, but I'm beginning to wonder if Dickey gets no love for the CY because he's a knuckleball/"Gimmick" pitcher? The numbers above don't lie. Dickey is having a PHENOMENAL SEASON!!!! C'mon Dickey.....LET'S KEEP THIS THING GOING!!!!!!!
