Pitches Seen vs. Walk Rate

If a batter who seeing a lot of pitches per at bat mitigate an extremely low walk rate? If a player had extremely low walk & k-rates w/lots of pitches per at-bat would they be considered more valuable? I don't have anyone particular in mind but I'm curious about which skills might be easier to improve. In that regard I'm thinking about Valdespin - he likes to swing which is probably hard to change and would mean he's unlikely to improve his walk rate, but if he he learned to take a strike and could increase the pitches he sees while improving his contact rate could that make him more valuable?
