New York Mets Daily Farm System Report: Cyclones Lose 2-0 To End Their Season

The Cyclones had a tough assignment on Monday night. They'd be facing Taylor Guerrieri, the 2011 first round pick of the Rays. Guerrieri has been impressive all year, and he'd have been the NY-Penn league leader in ERA had he thrown enough innings to qualify. In addition to his sparkling 1.04 ERA, he'd walked only five batters on the entire season. Base runners would be at a premium last night, so the Cyclones needed to take advantage.

Guerrieri would be unusually wild though, walking the bases loaded in the first inning before Stefan Sabol eventually flew out to end the inning. The Renegades would strike in the bottom half of the frame as 2012 first rounder Richie Shaffer would triple home Joey Rickard before taking home on a wild pitch himself. The two first inning runs against Luis Cessa would be all Hudson Valley would get, but they would be enough.

In all, Guerrieri would walk five batters and hitting one more in his four innings of work. He'd only allow a single hit though, as Phillip Evans managed to get on with a single in the third inning. The Hudson Valley bullpen would prove to be untouchable, as Brandon Henderson tossed 4 1/3 innings of perfect relief before handing the ball over to Ryan Garton to record the final two outs. Cessa would be the tough luck loser, throwing six excellent innings in total after allowing the two runs to score in the first.

With the loss, the Cyclones were eliminated from the NY-Penn league playoffs a game short of reaching the championship. Hudson Valley will now face Tri-City for the title. The Cyclones were the last Mets affiliate remaining, so the loss also marks the end of the Mets Minor League season. The complete box score can be found here.

Up next will be the Arizona Fall League, which is scheduled to begin for the Surprise Saguaros on October 9th at Peoria. The complete Surprise schedule can be found here. Ryan Fraser, Chase Huchingson, Adam Kolarek, Greg Peavey, Cesar Puello, Danny Muno, and Darrell Ceciliani will be joining the Surprise roster from the Mets.
