Quick Recap: Brewers 3, Mets 0 — Braun FedExes Two into the Stands, Mets O Losing Its Appeal

Brewers starter Wily Peralta pronounces his first name "Willie", but to Mets batters his high 90s heat proved wily, indeed. The rookie hurled eight scoreless innings, struck out five, and allowed just two singles. For comparison's sake, Peralta laced a double in the seventh, meaning he racked up as many total bases in a single plate appearance than he permitted the Mets offense to accumulate all game.

Speaking of the Mets offense...well, there wasn't much to speak of, actually. Being getaway day on this short road trip, the hitters must have had Citi Field on the brain, because they swung the bats like it was a home game. The one through six spots in the lineup went 0-for-21, while eighth hitter Andres Torres was the only Met to have a hit reach the outfield grass.

The Brew Crew, meanwhile, took Chris Young deep three times for a trio of solo home runs. Two came courtesy of Ryan Braun. He elevates the ball almost as well as he does his testosterone levels (allegedly).

We knew it was over when...

Ryan Braun went long for a second time, though a less optimistic person could easily argue that his first blast was the death knell for the Mets.

What else?

  • Braun's first jack was the 200th of his career.
  • Chorizo just edged out Hot Dog in the Miller Park sausage race.
