The Pirates jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first, capped by a three-run bomb from Pedro Alvarez. The Mets responded immediately with back-to-back homers from Justin Turner (no, really) and David Wright to trim the deficit to one run. However, the Pirates scored three times in the second to respond to the Mets' response, then tacked on another in the fifth.
All was quiet on both sides until the eighth, when the Mets manufactured a pair of runs on a two-out single from David Wright, a hit that tied him with Ed Kranepool for the all-time franchise hits record. Unfortunately, Garrett Jones belted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to remove any thought of a full comeback. The loss brought to an end the Mets' four-game winning streak. During the contest, Robert Carson was removed due to an apparent elbow injuries. Fun times! Only eight games left, folks.
Full recap to come.
