With an infield single in the bottom of the third inning against the Pirates, David Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool and set the franchise record with his 1,419th hit of his career.

The all-time hits record is a testament to longevity more than it is to skill, but Wright has been one of the best position players in franchise history and is deserving of as many of the team's accolades as he can achieve. With any luck, he will play well into his 30s with the Mets and perhaps one day have a shot at the benchmark 3,000th hit of his career.
