Quick Recap: Mets 6, Pirates 0 — Hefner Mows Down Pirates, Wright Sets Record For Hits

David Wright set the Mets' all-time hits record, and Jeremy Hefner dominated the Pirates as the Mets won.

Jeremy Hefner flipped the script on his previous disastrous start and threw seven excellent innings against the hapless Pittsburgh Pirates. He struck out seven, walked just one, and didn't allow a run in the outing. Jeurys Familia threw a perfect eighth inning which included a strikeout and stayed on for a scoreless — but far less dominant — ninth inning to end the game.

The Mets put together a four-run inning in the third inning on four singles and a double, and they tacked on a run in the fifth and another in the seventh to widen the lead.

We knew it was over when...

Hefner completed his seventh scoreless inning with the Mets up by six.

What else?

  • Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool for the Mets' all-time hit record with an infield single in the third. Bravo, David.
  • The Mets look to take the four-game series tomorrow afternoon with the one and only R.A. Dickey on the mound.
