My argument against Justin Upton

Stay connected for news and updates

Throughout the last 2 seasons I have seen numerous people looking for the Mets to go after Justin Upton. While there is no doubt he would be better than what we have I think he would be a mistake. I have been looking at his numbers throughout September and it still shows him as benefiting from playing in AZ.

September is coming to an end today so this will be without the last game of the month;

at 1st look his numbers seem great

Totals G25/R22/H30/2B(5)/3B(1)/HR6/RBI14/BB9/K15/SB4-4/.303/.358/.556/.913

but lets break them down to home/away

Home he is 16-37 (.432AVG) with 4 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 2 BB, 8 K (.461OBP)

Away 15-62 (.242) with 1 double 2HR/3RBI, 6BB, 7K (.309 OBP)

if you look at the season it is similar all year, his AVG is 61 points higher at home and his OPS is .940 at home and only .670 on the road and this numbers have been consistent in his career with a .940 career OPS at home, and a .731 away. Career AVG .307 home, .250 away

He is better than Bay, better than Torres but I feel his number would not come close to his AZ numbers at Citifield. I think he numbers would jump in across town.

I think Shin-Soo Choo may be the better RF to go after for this team and a very good #2 hitter behind Tejada, dropping Murphy to 5th if he is still here and maybe platooning Hairston and Duda in LF. Hope for something more consistent at the plate from Capt Kirk in CF, a very good fielding CF.
