Meet the Mets
The Mets and Jeremy Hefner got lit up by the Braves, falling 11-3 on a rainy Saturday evening. A 75-minute rain delay only served to drag out the torture on this evening. Hefner got knocked around for 5 runs on 8 hits over just 2.2 innings and the bullpen followed him up with more runs. Jeurys Familia also gave up a pair of runs in an inning of relief. The Mets scored their runs on a pair of Lucas Duda base hits and a Ronny Cedeno solo home run.

The Mets announced that Jenrry Mejia will make a start on September 19th against the Phillies. Meanwhile, there's no word on whether Jeurys Familia will get a big league start.
Ruben Tejada is tired but Terry Collins says that he's not blaming Tejada's struggles on the fact that he didn't show up early for spring training. I still find this meme to be hilarious.
The team's Sterling Award winners were honored at Citi Field before yesterday's game. Zack Wheeler was there and both he and Paul DePodesta spoke about his 2013 season.

The Nationals defeated the Marlins 7-6 on a Corey Brown walk-off single in the 10th inning. The Phillies and Rockies were rained out and will play a double dip today.
Around the Majors
The Yankees lost 5-4 to the Orioles in a wild game that ended with a terrible call by umpire Jerry Meals. Awwww, too bad! To make things worse (for the Yankees, better for us) Joe Girardi got into a heated exchange with New York Post columnist Joel Sherman after the game and the two had to be separated. Perhaps Sherman lobby for player management position.
In bad news for the O's, Nick Markakis suffered a broken thumb and will miss six weeks.
