I'm 22 years old so for along as I've been in to baseball I've had joy of hating this guy. His retirement is aiken to killing off Darth Vader, their will just never be another villain like Chipper Jones. He's still their best hitter so in that sense good riddance and good luck trying to replace that. Still those Mets/Braves 90's battles were the best and he's the last guy left from all that and I just don't think Mets/Braves is going to be quite the same without this guy.
I think what fans do like about Jones, is that he got into the Mets/Braves rivalry, and I'm so ****ing sick of the apathy you see in so many of today's players. I was at the game today, and I'll miss that "Larry" chant (seriously when the **** are we ever going to be able to use that again?) I think deep down we all wish he was a Met, not a third though we'll go 2002 and throw him in the outfield. So all in all Chipper, Thank you and **** you for all the memories.
P.S. Props on being along with a handful of die hards, the only people on earth who miss Shea.
