Mets Payroll Projector 2013

Stay connected for news and updates

Since it's impossible to talk about the Mets without talking about money I thought it'd be useful to post a hopefully pretty accurate list of payroll as it currently stands.

First some disclaimers:

The Mets have five contracted players whose numbers are firm. They are Santana, Wright, Francisco, Buck & Niese.

Three players are arbitration eligible. I've used MLBTR's estimates of what they should receive. It's hard to imagine they wouldn't cumulatively be within $500k of the estimate.

Pre-Arb Estimates are guys who pretty much have to sign the contract offered. Typically first year guys get league minimum while 2nd and 3rd year guys get slightly more. I've used $500k & $550k for these guys - not perfect to the penny but should be pretty close.

Finally, I pooled the Bay money and Santana buyout into one category.

I've also added a 2014 category because plenty of posters believe we'll have $50m to spend thanks to Bay & Santana being gone. Reality is the freed up amount is closer to half that amount because a) We pay Bay $7.5m in 2014 & 2115 and Wright had his 2013 deal restructured in a way that gives him a $9m raise in 2014 over 2013. You'll also have Dillon Gee & Tejada arb eligible and if Ike pops 35 HRs like we all hope, he'd likely get a big arb raise as well. Here are the numbers that I've pulled.
