New Money Means Belated Christmas Wish

With the Wilpons/Mets new found money, is there any chance Sandy can bring Jose Reyes back home?

Even though the Mets just made a big trade with the Blue Jays, it was a deal which benefited both teams, so both sides are likely still on good terms. During trade talks a small part of me hoped the Mets would keep R.A. Dickey, replace him in the deal with Jon Niese and Ruben Tejeda and bring Reyes home. Unfortunately Reyes (his contract) were affordable at the time of trade discussions. I realize Sandy isn't one to spend simply because the funds are available, but it is Reyes.

It would likely need to happen before the Blue Jays and their fans realize how truly awesome Reyes is. If nothing else, it can't hurt to inquire about Reyes' availability since the Mets would now be able to afford him. Toronto has several players capable of filling Reyes offensive production at lead off and last season Tejada showed he's better than your average shortstop defensively. With the acquisitons Toronto has made they appear committed to compete for the ALe Title the next few seasons, so dealing Reyes may not fall in line with those plans. It can't hurt to ask though.

In his only season with the Marlins Reyes put up solid numbers, on par with his 162 avg. stats, despite the Marlins offensive struggles and fire sale. Most impressive, Reyes played 160 games. Honestly, at the time I understood why the Mets didn't/couldn't re-sign Reyes, it's a business. However, A year later the Mets appear on the right track to compete for the postseason and it'd be pretty awesome if Wright and Reyes could finish what they started. If the Mets ever over pay a contract let it be to Wright and Reyes. (I'd be lying if I didn't wish Dickey were still a Met because he so badly wanted to be with the organization when things turn around. Unfortunately that ship has sailed.) Such a shame those funds weren't available during trade discussions. C'est la vie.

What are y'alls thoughts? Can the Mets and Blue Jays make another deal that benefits both clubs and brings Reyes back to NYCiti Field? Should the Mets bring Reyes back? Do you want Reyes back? Is Reyes worth Tejada, a prospect and the remaining money/years left on his contract?

Personally, I still want him back, I think he's worth it and Reyes back at leadoff addresses several needs. I believe Reyes production allows the Mets to move forward with their OF as is. Power is a luxury the Mets have failed to acquire power thru free agency for years. (see: Vaughn, Burnitz, Bay) If the Mets can play small ball like they did the first half of last season, Reyes would score more runs than a little bit. You can't always depend on small ball to win games, but it's the same as living by the big fly, dying by (lack of) the big fly.
