Mets Trade Rumors: Rockies owner says Tulowitzki and Gonzalez won't be moved

Two potential trade candidates for the Mets have been taken off the board, as Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez are staying put for the time being.

In an interview with the Denver Post, Rockies owner Dick Monfort said that he will not be looking to trade either Troy Tulowitzki or Carlos Gonzalez. Instead, Monfort says that the Rockies future will be based around the two players, saying that he plans "to always keep them."

This story is of interest to Mets fans for a few reasons. Last year, the Mets were linked to Carlos Gonzalez, but as Steve Schreiber suggested in December, the Rockies were probably never willing to trade their 27-year-old outfield sensation, and many Mets fans were driven away by curious splits that seemed to disappear this season.

The case for Tulowitzki seemed to have intensified in the last weeks, as the Mets' faithful began to realize the lack to good options the Mets have internally at shortstop, and Sandy Alderson took to WFAN to discuss that very issue. Tulowitzki looked like a good match for the Mets if the Rockies were willing to offer him, as the Rockies seem to be in need of young pitching.

The most obvious implication for the Mets is that Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, and Rafael Montero are still with the organization. To think that a package could have been constructed without at least one of them is silly, and the reality was that the Mets would definitely had to offer multiple top tier prospects, or under-control pitchers to have acquired either player.
