Mets Morning News: CarGo, Tulo won't be traded, Tigers advance to ALCS

New York Mets related news and links for October 11, 2013

With the playoffs still in progress, actual Mets news is going to be scarce over the next few weeks. There is still plenty to speculate about though, most notably who the Mets could reasonably acquire to bolster their awful offense.

Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki are two names that have been tossed around a lot, but don't sound like they'll be available. Jose Abreu certainly will be, but we tackled the idea of whether spending big on him would be a particularly wise thing to do.

Jeff looked at another pair of prospects he saw in 2013, profiling both Wilfredo Tovar and Logan Verrett.

Chris took on the topic of tendering another current Met, relief pitcher Scott Atchison.

Around Baseball

There was only one game going on last evening, and it was a good one. The Tigers managed to defeat the A's on the back of a fantastic performance from Justin Verlander, and will now face the Red Sox in the ALCS.

Luckily for everyone, we don't have to worry about what to do on a Friday night with no baseball. The NLCS gets underway this evening in St. Louis with Zack Greinke taking on Joe Kelly.

Buck Martinez should probably re-read Moneyball at some point, assuming he's actually read it in the first place.

Some of the Mets beat writers have already started calling for a David Price trade, and BtB takes on the idea of trying to acquire the Rays pitcher.
