Meet the Mets

Mets Minor League blog has a recap of the first week in the Arizona Fall League.

Yesterday At AA

Rumor has it that Sandy Alderson will not bid on free agents Robinson Cano or Jose Abreu. Cano seemed like a given considering age and price tag but I guess we'll see about Abreu.

Speaking of free agents and acquisitions in general, Chris McShane says that they can't all be perfect like Mike Trout.

Ari Alexander wonders if Mets relief prospect Jack Leathersich is a future closer.

Jeffrey Paternostro wrote about Wilfredo Tovar, who he saw eariler this year in Binghamton.

Matthew Callan goes back to the videotape of Jack Howell getting tossed from a game for doctoring a baseball.

Around the Playoffs

Carlos Beltran is still a great player, folks. After knocking in the first two Cardinals runs in the 3rd inning, Beltran saved a run in the 10th when he threw Mark Ellis out at home plate, and then won the game with a walkoff hit in the 13th to propel the Cardinals to a game one victory by a score of 3-2. Game two of the NLCS (National League CarlosBeltran Series) featuring Carlos Beltran is this afternoon at 4:00 and Michael Wacha will face Clayton Kershaw.

The Tigers and Red Sox open the ALCS tonight in Boston as Anibal Sanchez matches up with Jon Lester.

Around the Majors

Important note for AAOPs and general offseason rumor mongering: a qualifying offer this offseason will be worth $14.1 million.

San Jose's anti-trust lawsuit against Major League Baseball regarding the A's was dismissed yesterday.

The Phillies want Cuban righty Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to be in their rotation at the start of the year.

Bartolo Colon thinks he can pitch another three years and would like to go back to Oakland.

The Marlins announced the additions of former big leaguers Brett Butler and Frank Menechino to their coaching staff. Butler will serve as third base coach and Menechino will be the hitting coach.

Get ready to travel back to 1995! Pearl Jam has teamed up with Fox to soundtrack the World Series, which means you'll get to hear plenty of unintelligible Eddie Vedder lyrics before and after commercial breaks! Hooray!
