Meet the Mets
Joel Sherman wrote in the Post this morning that Boston's decisions on four of their free agents could serve to shape the market for both the Mets and Yankees. Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Napoli, Stephen Drew, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia could all get qualifying offers from Boston.
David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News speculates that the Mets and Phillies could battle this offseason to land outfielder Carlos Beltran. It's bad enough seeing Carlos in Cardinals colors. but Phillies pinstripes would be awful. Come home to New York, Carlos. We have plenty of gum.
Speaking of Beltran, Anthony DiComo wrote a defense of the former Mets' star's tenure in New York. I think (hope?) at this point we all appreciate what Beltran did for the Mets in his tenure but in case you don't, read it. Also, don't click on the video link at the top of that page. I've warned you.

Jeffrey Paternostro wrote about breakout Binghamton reliever Jeff Walters, who could find himself in Queens at some point in 2014.
Around the Playoffs
Wacha Wacha Wacha! The Cardinals shut out Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers by a score of 1-0, as rookie and 2012 first rounder Michael Wacha was outstanding over 6.2 innings. With the Cardinals up by two in the series, the two teams head back to Los Angeles where the series will resume on Monday.
Anibal Sanchez threw six no-hit innings, while walking 6 and striking out 12, as the Tigers defeated the Red Sox 1-0 in game one at Fenway Park. The Tigers' bullpen took the no-hit bid into the ninth inning, where with one out, Daniel Nava broke it up with a single to center field. Game two of the series takes place tonight when Max Scherzer will face off against Clay Buchholz.
Around the Majors
Hanley Ramirez missed yesterday's game and with the Dodgers suddenly down by two games, the shortstop is worried that a CT Scan will reveal that his rib injury may be more serious than thought.
The Yankees have a number of holes in their starting rotation and they're expected to be serious players for 24-year old Japanese righthander Masahiro Tanaka when he gets posted later this offseason.
MLB players will be allowed to play in winter leagues this offseason after MLB and the Players Association came to an agreement on restrictions.
