After seeing their 26-year tenure with WFAN come to an end this offseason, the Mets appear to have found themselves a new radio home. Newsday reports that the team has reached an agreement with Clear Channel and WOR 710-AM to broadcast their games beginning in 2014.
Howie Rose is expected to return as the Mets play-by-play announcer, but Josh Lewin's return is less certain. The report says that WOR is a 50,000-watt clear channel with a similar reach to WFAN.
With their WOR deal, the Mets will also be promoted on Clear Channel's five FM stations: KTU, Power 105.1, Lite FM, 106.7, Q104, and most notably, Z100. However, Neil Best says that there are no current plans for Mets games to be broadcast on any of the FM stations.
WOR broadcasts Rutgers foothall and basketball games, but this will the be first professional sports team it has had in its wings since losing the New Jersey Nets in 2004.
For those still uncomfortable with the idea of the Mets leaving WFAN, here is the retrospective played on the station after the Mets' final game of the 2013 season.
