Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Your Wednesday morning dose of New York Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

MLB Trade Rumors has a rundown of the Mets' arbitration eligible players.

The Mets are still trying to figure out why they struggle to win games in Citi Field. My guess: crappy hitters getting way too many at bats.

Toby Hyde continues writing about Mets' Sterling Award winners, looking at Binghamton's Noah Syndergaard and Jeff Walters.

Mark Simon counted down the best moments of the Mets' 2013 season. He also wrote up a free agent guide.

Yesterday At AA

Sandy Alderson spoke to Mike Francesa on Monday afternoon and we have a transcript of the interview. In particular, he spoke a bit about the team's first base situation and how Lucas Duda and Ike Davis fit. Alderson also mentioned that the Mets may consider bringing Johan Santana back if he's interested in returning.

Rob Castellano reviewed the Mets' strong minor league season.

Ari Alexander writes that Mets fans are ready for more beyond a third place finish.

Jeff Paternostro gave a report on Kingsport third base prospect Pedro Perez, a raw 19-year old with some potential with the bat down the road.

Around the Playoffs

The Pirates beat the Reds 6-2 in the NL Wild Card game, as Marlon Byrd kicked off the party with a home run and Russell Martin added a pair of dingers of his own. The Pirates get today off before they take on the Cardinals in the division series beginning on Thursday.

In the AL Wild Card game tonight, the Rays take on the Indians with Alex Cobb facing off against Danny Salazar.

Around the Majors

Dan Uggla was left off of the Braves' NLDS roster. The second baseman was in the midst of a bad season but struggled even more after undergoing LASIK surgery.

The Royals gave manager Ned Yost a two-year contract extension after they won 86 games. Meanwhile, the Yankees are negotiating with Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman says they're going to give him a reason to stay.

In case you have some interest in him as a free agent reclamation project this offseason, Josh Johnson had surgery to remove some bone spurs from his elbow. He could be a nice buy-low off of a rough season in Toronto.

For some reason, the Mariners are going to give Kendrys Morales a qualifying offer this offseason.
