Ruben Tejada reportedly on schedule in recovery from broken leg

The Mets shortstop should be fully healed by sometime next month.

2013 was not a friendly year for Ruben Tejada. The shortstop entered the season with the expectations that he was New York's shortstop of the future, but his play during the season turned the position into a big ole question mark. Tejada batted a measley .202/.259/.260 in 57 games when he wasn't either injured or stuck in the minor leagues.

He was recalled in September for some quality major league playing time, but Tejada went and broke his leg in an outfield collision with Andrew Brown on September 18. The good news out of New York today is that Tejada's agent Chris Leible says his client is well on his way to recovering from the fractured fibula in his right leg.

The original recovery timetable was six-to-eight weeks, so Tejada should be ready for baseball activities sometime in November. We're still a long ways off from finding out if he's going to be the starting shortstop for the Mets in April, though. Free agent shortstop options include Jhonny Peralta, Stephen Drew, and, if the Rays decline his club option, Yunel Escobar.
