Scott Boras's comments depicting the Mets as NASA during the GM meetings this week have made one thing abundantly clear, Scott Boras doesn't understand the Mets and Sandy Alderson at all. Why would the Mets look for astronauts when Sandy is clearly more into comic books than space travel?
Last year the Mets began to change. From within this regular baseball team a few super human players began to emerge. Before the season even began, a red white and blue clad masher started the super trend, as Captain America was born during the WBC.
As the season got underway it became clear that Captain America was not the only superhero on the Mets. Every fifth day the basepaths of Citi Field were free of crime, after all how could anyone steal without getting on base? The Dark Knight of Gotham had arrived to become the symbol this team needed.
However, these two heroes cannot bring the Mets to a World Series alone. Luckily, their are rumblings of another hero coming to the Mets aid from a distant stadium. If he is able to survive the challenges presented to him in the desert next season, Thor should be called to the big apple to help ward off the would be invaders of Citi Field soon enough.
The question for this offseason won't be whether or not Sandy will acquire any astronauts. What the Mets need are some more superheroes.
