Ron Darling renews contract to cover Mets games with SNY

USA TODAY Sports

The Emmy-winning analyst will return to Mets broadcasts after signing a "multi-year" deal.

Yesterday, on SNY's Mets Hot Stove, the Mets' regional sports network informed viewers that Ron Darling would return as a Mets color analyst for the next few seasons. This is fresh off news that Darling had also signed on with the MLB Network as an offseason analyst.

Darling has served as the Mets' color analyst since SNY came into existence in 2006. He, alongside Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez, have comprised a broadcast team that has been widely regarded as one of the best in sports. Darling himself has won two New York Emmys in the "Sports Analyst" category, one in 2007 and another in 2012. The Mets' broadcast as a whole won in 2008.

Darling, Cohen, and Hernandez have become cult heroes to many Mets fans for their insightful analysis, relationship with the fans, and ability to keep broadcasts engaging despite the Mets painful past few seasons. Our own James Kannengieser paid tribute to "GKR" with a drinking game in their honor.
