The 36-player Hall of Fame ballot has been released and it is absolutely stacked. Here is the full list:
Moises Alou, Jeff Bagwell, Armando Benitez, Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Sean Casey, Roger Clemens, Ray Durham, Eric Gagne, Tom Glavine, Luis Gonzalez, Jacque Jones, Todd Jones, Jeff Kent, Paul Lo Duca, Greg Maddux, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Mike Mussina, Hideo Nomo, Rafael Palmeiro, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines, Kenny Rogers, Curt Schilling, Richie Sexson, Lee Smith, J.T. Snow, Sammy Sosa, Frank Thomas, Mike Timlin, Alan Trammell, Larry Walker
Mike Piazza is on the ballot once again, having inexplicably failed to garner enough votes for induction last year. Other former Mets on the ballot include Moises Alou, Armando Benitez, Tom Glavine, Jeff Kent, Paul Lo Duca, Hideo Nomo, and Kenny Rogers. Here is my hypothetical ballot, containing the maximum of 10 selections:
- Jeff Bagwell
- Craig Biggio
- Barry Bonds
- Roger Clemens
- Tom Glavine
- Greg Maddux
- Mark McGwire
- Mike Piazza
- Curt Schilling
- Frank Thomas
If the ballot allowed more than 10 selections, I would also include Jeff Kent, Edgar Martinez, Mike Mussina, Rafael Palmeiro, Tim Raines, Sammy Sosa, and Alan Trammell. The slam dunks are Bagwell, Bonds, Clemens, Glavine, Maddux, Piazza, and Thomas. I am not bothered by PEDs. Many of the all-time great players listed above will not be inducted into the Hall of Fame this time around and, unfortunately, possibly never will be.
