Curtis Granderson's deal with Mets slightly middle-loaded

Nick Laham

Jon Heyman has the annual breakdown.

The Mets' four-year deal with Curtis Granderson will pay the veteran outfielder slightly more money in the second and third years of the deal, according to Jon Heyman. Here's the complete breakdown:

Year Salary (millions)
2014 $13.0
2015 $16.0
2016 $16.0
2017 $15.0

Considering the Mets' budget is almost certainly limited for 2014, a couple million fewer dollars next year can only help as Sandy Alderson and his front office attempt to build a better the upcoming season. Alderson stated a few weeks ago that the team's payroll would exceed $87 million in 2014.

Assuming Heyman's numbers are accurate, the Mets have about $73.4 million committed to their 2014 roster. Here's a look at their 25-man roster—plus Matt Harvey—if the season were to start today, using data from Cot's Contracts and arbitration estimates from MLB Trade Rumors.

Player 2014 Salary (millions)
David Wright $20.0
Curtis Granderson $13.0
Chris Young $7.3
Daniel Murphy $5.8
Jon Niese $5.1
Ike Davis $3.5
Dillon Gee $3.4
Bobby Parnell $3.2
Eric Young Jr. $1.9
Lucas Duda $1.8
Ruben Tejada $1.0
Scott Rice $0.5
Zack Wheeler $0.5
Jenrry Mejia $0.5
Josh Edgin $0.5
Jeurys Familia $0.5
Anthony Recker $0.5
Vic Black $0.5
Andrew Brown $0.5
Travis d'Arnaud $0.5
Gonzalez Germen $0.5
Juan Lagares $0.5

Total $73.4
